Design guidelines for pictograms on packaging
The Nordic countries strengthen waste sorting with a Common System of Symbols for waste bins, recycling stations, recycling centres and for packaging.

The pictograms can be used on products, for example packaging and single use products, to guide consumers on how the product should be sorted as waste. The pictograms are overall identical - except for language.

The pictograms is a visual link between the empty package and the waste container and helps the consumer to sort correctly.

In order to maintain the uniform expression in the Nordic countries, we have drawn up the guidelines for how the symbols should look and be placed.
